Young Blood is a fairytale play in two acts.

Originally written in Finnish, Young Blood is a queer fairy fiction. The full lenght play was Martta Jylhä’s artistic thesis for the Dramaturgy and Playwriting programme in the Theatre Academy of Helsinki in 2022. It’s a horny fanfiction of Mean Girls and loosely based on this early 2000’s cult movie.

Mycelium city is full of parties, exes, outfit crises and gossiping fairies. Angel, Daisy and Sky are best friends whose "together-forever-no-matter-what" bond is put to the test when Angel becomes enchanted by the school's new student, Luna. However, it soon becomes clear that the tangle of secrets is as thick as the storm clouds heading towards the city.

Young Blood is a witty and flirtatious queer high school drama about growing pains and friendship. The show is a speculative fiction about dreaming and summoning fantasies alive and the longing to be seen.

The play has 16 different characters and it has been originally written for seven actors. There is also an English translation of the text available!

Young Blood has been commissioned into a musical by the City Theatre Lappeenranta and it will be premiering again in May 2024.
